Christie Architecture seeks candidates for a Job Captain position to support the design and delivery of high-end residential projects under the direction of the principals at our SW Portland, Oregon studio.
Expected role
The Job Captain will take an active role in developing project documentation and coordination through all phases of design and construction. Responsibilities include developing and organizing drawing sets, coordinating with consultants and team members, supporting quality and accuracy of technical documents, and assisting with construction administration. The position also includes opportunities to contribute to design development, presentations, and client communication.
This role offers exposure to multiple projects at various stages and close collaboration with the firm’s principals. The Job Captain will help mentor junior staff while continuing to refine their own technical and design skills in a high-end residential practice.
Required skills & experience
- Minimum 6+ years of professional experience in architecture, from schematic design through construction administration.
- Prior residential architecture experience.
- Professional degree in architecture from an accredited university.
- Proficiency in BIM document production; Archicad preferred (Revit experience acceptable—training provided).
- Comprehensive understanding of architectural drawing sets and the design/delivery process.
- Strong technical aptitude and enjoyment of the technical side of architecture, including experience with construction detailing and documentation standards.
- Experience coordinating structural, civil, and MEP consultants.
- Familiarity with local codes, permitting, and approval processes in Oregon and Washington.
- Demonstrated ability to translate design intent into clear, buildable technical solutions.
- Demonstrated passion for refined residential design and precision detailing.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented; enjoys process and follow-through.
- Ability to manage and prioritize tasks across multiple projects.
- Works effectively both independently and collaboratively in a small-studio environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; comfortable taking initiative and providing guidance to others.
Schedule
Part-time to start, with opportunity for full-time based on performance and experience.
Compensation
Hourly, commensurate with experience.
Location
On site at our SW Portland studio.
We are not seeking remote or contract applicants.
