The Cutest Garage in NE Portland
This is one of our cherished repeat clients and while there have been several projects, this one is extra special and undeniably the cutest. In fact, the general contractor husband actually built this design gem for his wife. How cute is that?

This is a drawing of the new Grant Garage showing its proximity to the garage on the adjacent neighbor's property.

It is not uncommon in this part of the world to have two households sharing a driveway with very little space designated between garages.

The old Grant Garage was too small for modern vehicles and falling apart.

This poses design challenges that include specific code compliance issues, such as creating a firewall between the two structures. And of course, how does the look of one impact the other? In this case, the charming cottage-style building inspired the neighbor to tackle their own project.

Cuteness and charm were achieved with thoughtful detailing—a steeply pitched roof, three gables, divided-light windows and lap siding. Custom brackets support lovely trellises. The one over the garage doors highlights the curved header and carriage house-style doors. The design secret is that it is actually a roll-up garage door. The side trellis defines the edge of the lushly landscaped cottage-inspired yard and patio area with a firepit—a secret garden experience.

An old window from the former garage is hung as artwork on the exterior of the new Grant Garage.

Wisteria vines grow on the custom trellises on the Grant Garage.

The extra deep structure accommodates a car and provides space for a woodshop. A lot of function is packed into this storybook setting.

“Not only did Lisa and Adam design the most adorable garage for us, but they have since designed the interior of our entire house. We highly recommend them for their attention to detail and design.”
